My Shepherd

As we study Genesis 48:12-22 this evening we find Israel pronouncing his blessing over Joseph and his sons. There are interesting elements to Israel’s blessing. Ephraim is elevated above Manasseh, even though he is the younger son. We also see Israel’s testimony that God has been his shepherd, the first such pronouncement in Scripture. Lastly, we see Israel promising that God will continue to be with Jospeh and their family. Israel’s blessing reveals who God is and leaves his family with a proper understanding and confidence in God’s covenantal promises.
