This week we are studying Genesis 25:12-26. In tonight’s passage we find the family lines of both Ishmael & Isaac revealed. As we see this brief tale of two sons we are confronted with the Biblical truth that God sovereignly chooses how He will carry on Abraham’s line. First, this choice is seen in choosing to carry on the line through Isaac instead of Ishmael and then in choosing Jacob instead of Esau. This understanding doesn’t just have bearing on the beginnings of the Israelite line, but it shows us much of how God operates. Our God is a God who choose, sovereignly and unconditionally. Tonight’s passage, in fact, is highlighted by the Apostle Paul in describing God’s purposes in election. Join us as we study this passage and this critical doctrine of the Christian faith.
