The Atonement

As we continue to study Philippians 2:1-11, seeking to understand how we can rightly live within the body of Christ in the manner that Paul commands us to live, we find ourself coming to the next picture of Christ’s person and work that Paul gives to us: The Atonement. How are we to understand Christ’s death on the cross? What is the purpose of the cross? Is the cross some cruel movement of a dictator God or the greatest example of love we’ve ever seen? Does the cross accomplish a moral standard we are called to follow, victory over the powers of darkness or the satisfaction of God’s wrath and justice? Join us as we look squarely at the atoning work of Christ to develop a Biblically faithful understanding of the cross.
