Theology and Passion: Death-defying Missions

A few of us from The Village got the chance to attend Together for the Gospel - interdenominational conference centered around the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  David Platt spoke on missions. It was incredible. It blended two things that I am very passionate about: theology and passion. I hate how these to things are often divorced in our minds. This was one of the most stirring sermons I've heard and it was because he unpacked how a firm grasp of the doctrine of the God's sovereignty and infinite worth leads to passionate action. Passion has to be founded on an idea. The weight and power of the idea will determine the extent of passion it can create. The more specific content of the talk Platt gives is missions. The need for passionate, sold out people to reach the ends of the earth with The Joy That Will Never End is dire. The only way this will happen is for people to get a taste of the pleasure found in knowing God, so that selling everything to get more of him wouldn't even register as a sacrifice.
