Name

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Psalm 8:1

King David begins this Psalm of Praise by declaring that the name of God is majestic.  The very name of God is majestic, grand and honorable.  Names were very important to the Jewish people and were used as descriptors of character and actions.  This is why the Old Testament is filled with so many names for God.

Thanks

I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High. Psalm 7:17

Be thankful!  When you hear these words maybe you are like me and immediately begin thinking of the “stuff” of life that we should be thankful for.  This then takes my mind to a place where I start to think of what I don’t have, and soon any posture of thankfulness has quickly been chased off.

Grace

O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. 2 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled. Psalm 6:1-2

The Psalmist begins this song with a plea: God, show me grace!  The Psalmist is going through a great time of trial, he is “languishing” and his very “bones are troubled.”  This is a dark time when the Psalmist feels the weight of his enemies all around him, so he begins his psalm pleading with God to be gracious to him.
